I have a question concerning the techniques to reconstruct temperature and precipitation from pollen data. As far is I can see, the temperature and precipitation values are created in the LiPD file, since Neotoma (and other sources) do present derived variables. Both WA-PLS and MAT need modern data to infer temperature and precipication. What modern datasets are used for this technique? am mainly looking at data around the Baltic Sea.
LiPD itself doesn’t do any reconstructions. The data has been calculated by someone else and archived in the file. Do you have a specific example of a LiPD file where this arises?
You’re right, I double checked and I found it’s from Herzschuh et al 2023. The majority of LiPD files I am interested in, come from this publication (e.g. Abbortjarnen.Giesecke.2005), so I assumed it was the standard format for LiPD files. Thank you for your reply
