While researching award-winning applications of Cartopy for a PaleoHack mapping tutorial, I came across these absolutely gorgeous maps of the surface geology of Mars by Eleanor Lutz, which use Cartopy (and a few other things) to layer an unbelievable amount of information in a very readable way. If you’re ready for a moving picture, and aren’t afraid to drool on your laptop, there is also this animation of Earth’s surface seasonal cycle and a lot of other projects that will raise the ceiling of scientific visualization. And if that wasn’t enough, Eleanor has the grace to share her know-how on Github. Truly inspiring! What spatial visualizations inspire you?
